It is curiosity that serves as the guiding principle for Fritz Rossmann’s work, preventing him from being trapped by the lethargy of the known. Born and raised in the traditional stoneware town of Frechen and trained in a traditional stoneware workshop in the Westerwald, tradition has been an omnipresent influence on his development. However, contrary to what one might expect, his stoneware and porcelain works are anything but traditional reproductions of familiar shapes and surfaces. “My vessels are strongly structured interpretations of traditional forms,” he says. His excellence in creating something new from something known is renowned worldwide.
