One morning, looking across the grass behind his house, Rob Thalen was captivated by the sparkles of ice crystals glistening in the light. “How can I capture this ‘image’ in the design of a silver vessel?” he wondered. After working on sketches and exploring options, Rob and his brother Jaap came up with a design composed of 30 kg of silver and 300 diamonds to create the sparkling effect of morning dew.

This solid silver sculpture is part of a small series of vessels. The piece evokes crumpled-up paper or a dried-up riverbed.

Thalen & Thalen created this limited series of classically shaped silver bowls, whose surface is reminiscent of the gentle ripples of a stream.

The idea behind this concave vessel was to recreate a landscape whose topographical features change according to the angle they are viewed from. The glass insert is designed to hold a single flower.

The shape of this silver vessel was inspired by the ancient Roman amphora. The vessel, placed atop a leather pillow, is intended to be tactile, inviting the viewer to pick it up and feel the surface.
