This paper time machine is placed in the window display of one of the biggest bookstores of Budapest. The delicate laser cut paper cogwheels and clock face invite passersby to take a closer look. The installation has many moving elements, such as turning cogwheels and planets combined with letters, which together evoke the magic of childhood. A multi-layered installation, visitors will notice more and more as they step closer. Quotes from writers are hidden in the typographic layers of the installation, so there is always a new word or detail to discover. To create the movement, Edinas Paper collaborated with the kinetic designers of MeetLab.

Inspired by her city

Edina Németh's preference for paper as a medium started at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam where she studied interior design. “It was an unconscious choice. Somehow it never ceased to fascinate me how paper can be so delicate and strong at the same time,” she explains. After graduation, she moved back to Hungary during the recession in 2009, and her career shifted towards marketing as “there were no jobs in architecture at that time”. Her four-year experience collaborating with different agencies was a valuable learning curve. However, she soon felt the urge to create with her hands. In 2016, she opened her workshop, Edinas Paper, and since then she has collaborated with well known brands including Samsung, Coca-Cola, Unilever and many others.

This is a custom-made invitation made from delicate layers of laser cut paper depicting a silhouette of Budapest's cityscape. The top of the box can be pressed with metal foil which further elevates the effect.

Four Seasons pop up card
This tiny pop up card was designed for the Four Seasons hotel in Budapest. The wonderful facade of the hotel has inspired Edina many times before but this is an elegant solution for representing their brand and communicating with their partners.

Omorovicza window display
This window display was commissioned by Omorovicza and designed to emphasise the connection of the brand to the city. Edina highlighted the building of Racz Spa, which was renovated by the Omorovicza family in the 1800s. The peacock, which is one of the main symbols of the brand, was made of hundreds of paper feathers which were all shaped by hand to achieve incredible detail. Among the crisp white paper buildings, the stunning blue and green of the peacock stands out, while also subtly referencing the brand's logo.

This silhouette of Budapest was designed for a custom-made invitation card. Budapest and its architecture is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Edina, who in this case transformed the city into a delicate layered leporello card.
