This elegant piece of furniture, with inset handles of polished stainless steel and chrome, was crafted using ancient cabinetmaking techniques but with a contemporary touch: an electronic component has been included so that the two drawers can be opened from a distance with a remote device.

Keeping it in the family

Growing up above his father’s wood workshop had a profound impact on Emmanuel Joussot, who was immersed in this world from an early age. His father employed apprentices from the Compagnons du Devoir and, as a child, Emmanuel learnt cabinetry and joinery alongside them. He worked under his father’s guidance for 14 years before taking over the management of the workshop on his retirement in 1989. The workshop originally focused on the production of 17th to 19th century French furniture designs, however now Emmanuel mainly makes contemporary furniture as well as panelling, antique furniture and gilded wood. He works closely with designers and interior decorators to create interior layouts and single pieces or limited series.

This four-sided shelf was designed by Eric Benqué in such a way that it does not have any right angles. It was handcrafted from bamboo composite in Emmanuel’s workshop, in accordance with the cabinetmaker’s ecological design guidelines.

Chimera desk
This child’s desk in linden wood is the result of a collaboration between French designer Eric Benqué and master cabinetmaker Emmanuel Joussot. The sides of the desk were carved with reliefs representing chimeras, finished with gold leaf. The ecological design procedure developed by Emmanuel has become central to his furniture and panelling production.
