Bags designed to last generations

  • • Garvan studied furniture design before turning to bags
  • • He enjoys the simplicity of pared back construction
  • • He believes if you treat the material faithfully it will reward you

Garvan de Bruir works with equestrian, bridal leather to create sleek accessories that showcase the beauty of the material but also utilise its strength and longevity, qualities he feels can often be overlooked due to leather’s reputation as a luxury product. When designing his bags, the structure and construction methods dictate the aesthetics – a very different process to ‘styling’ or ‘decorating’ an existing bag. Garvan uses simple shapes, honest construction details and robust stitching to achieve this timeless style. In today’s throwaway society these well made and sophisticated works advocate for buying fewer but better and more sustainable products.

Bucket tote

Soft, textured leather is used to make the body of this bag. This supple, characterful hide is complemented by the crisper handles in rich bridle leather. The shape of the bag splays outwards to create a very generously sized interior, where there is also a large zipped pocket. The long handles hook easily over the shoulder.

Duffle bag

Characterised by its tubular shape, this classic duffle bag has been reinterpreted by Garvan in leather. Generous overlapping top flaps allow easy access and can even stay upright to allow for occasional overfilling of its spacious interior. A row of skids protects the base, two extending to create carry handles, which allow the bag be carried by hand or over the shoulder. Grip handles are also included.

Parachuter bag

An original De Bruir studio design, this bag has become one of the company's signature pieces. A contemporary backpack which hints at a bygone era, it is created from a large wrap of leather, with two overlapping top flaps and an end flap for added protection. A row of skids protects the base and adds aesthetic appeal. When packed, it is closed with a simple and secure front buckle and brass stud. The bag is remarkably comfortable to wear.

Leather sports bag

This is a sports holdall bag that exudes quality and distinction while being functional and practical. It is constructed from two portions of leather sewn together with one continuous seam. The base is reinforced with a row of skids, two of which extend to create long carrying handles suitable for carrying the bag over the shoulder. The use of brass rivets and a high quality brass YKK zip demonstrates a commitment to solid build quality and durability.
