This monochrome porcelain form is part of Silvia Chaneva’s Shell Object series. Throughout her work, she draws inspiration from nature, from structures and forms that she has observed, especially those that have evolved over thousands of years. Shell was cast in a mould from several layers of porcelain. Silvia then works each sculpture by hand, meaning no two are ever alike.

Silvia Chaneva drew inspiration for this coloured porcelain bowl-shaped sculpture from forms observed in nature, especially shells and other forms that have evolved over thousands of years. She finds it challenging to interpret them, imbuing them with personal emotions and perspectives. Following the first firing, the bowl was decorated with various glazes and its surface was worked on by hand.

Silvia added black colour to the white porcelain, accentuating the forms of the bowls. She drew her inspiration for their unique design from her observation of natural forms, such as shells.
