Like all the works from Cathy’s “Figures” series, Deserter confronts a kitsch factory-made figure with an abstract handcrafted form. This is the first of the series that preserves the original colours of the found object. Man’s best friend, the dog, is used as a metaphor for soldiers. This amusing association depicts the absurdity of the world by embodying rebellion through the figure of the deserter.

The third sculpture in the “Warheads” series, Homo Ballisticus portrays Allan D. Cors, director of the National Rifle Association (NRA) from 2015 to 2017. After meticulously modelling his face, Cathy has added another dimension by catapulting steel projectiles into it. She does not consider this violent gesture to be destructive because the precise imprints made by the balls in the fresh clay fit perfectly into the fine lines neatly etched into the surface.

Political figures featured on the front pages of newspapers make up the 13 members of The Dream Team. Each portrait was carefully moulded before being brutally but more or less deliberately hammered. This unequivocal and definitive treatment questions the issue of gestures in the practice of art.

The Match was conceived by chance, on an impulse that freed the artist from technical requirements and a refined finish. After glancing at sketches in a notebook, Cathy decided to interpret one of them spontaneously with a small piece of clay, in a record time of a few minutes.

The Three Graces was clearly inspired by Cathy's “True Faces” project carried out with 100 participants who had never worked with clay before. Their goal was to excel themselves and to be creative beyond the limits of academic rules. In this instance, skill and dexterity have been swept aside by qualities of lightness and humour that can claim to be inherent artistic values.
