Patience, purity and porcelain

  • • Laine works with liquid porcelain
  • • She mixes her own signature colours using special formulas
  • • She creates different sets of tableware

Laine Beriņa’s path to becoming a ceramicist might have started as a hobby, but she has never regretted the choice to turn it into a small business, and it is still as much a passion as a job. Her porcelain tableware is instantly recognisable for its pure, pastel colours and fine, clean shapes. Laine’s work proves that porcelain can be contemporary and original. It also breaks with the convention of the traditional dinnerware set, since her porcelain pieces can be mixed and matched. It takes a lot patience and calmness to work with porcelain. To symbolise this state of mind and the love that is put into each object, Laine often draws a little golden heart at the bottom of a piece, which is only seen when the cup or bowl has been emptied.

These little cups are handmade from coloured porcelain, glazed and finished with a gold edge and a tiny gold heart on the inside bottom of the cup. The cups are ideal for short drinks, like espresso. The inspiration came from muffins and old royal tableware sets.

Tulip collection (Tulip bowl S, plate M, plate L)

This set of plates, inspired by pancakes and spring flower blossoms, can be used to serve dinner, lunch or breakfast. They are made using a porcelain slip casting technique. The mould was handmade so the final result also looks more hand built than slip cast.

Sofa You So Soft

This is a mixture of different pieces made over a period of time and assembled by photographer Zane Priede for a project called Sofa You So Soft. The concept for this photo session was to show the main brand values: brightness, lightness, freshness and cosiness. The photoshoot took place in autumn, which is the darkest time of year in Latvia, so the idea was to reflect this contrast and show Laine's products as essential for well being and comfort in the home.
