The magic of realism

  • • Paul Christopher collaborates closely with his clients
  • • He mixes different techniques
  • • He painted the chapel of a private palace

“Whoever owns a mural realizes the dream of living inside a painting. It makes the walls that surround them become windows to magic, beauty and emotion,” says Paul Christopher McKenna. Born in Dublin, the painter and mural artist has been living in Madrid for the last 24 years, creating dreamlike spaces, suspended between magic and a world of fantasy, mixing different sources and techniques. Paul Christopher works on commissions in private spaces and deeply values the relationship with his clients, he sketches beforehand to make sure that the client is pleased and only then he starts to paint on the wall. Colour is everything to him, together with research and art knowledge, which are the key elements for him to express his creativity.

Chapel of the Palace of Vidiago

A private commission mural in a chapel of a palace in Spain. The painted columns, sky and angels create the perfect depth and perspective, the path leading to the encounter with the Divine. The colours are reminiscent of classic paintings and the light of a summer day.

The Island

In a private residence in Madrid, following the cleint’s brief, Paul Christopher depicts a jungle mural, framing the classic fireplace and creating a contrast between wildnerness and a domestic context. Vivid colours reflect the realism of nature.

English countryside mural

The client commissioned the mural on a wall to recreate the atmosphere of the English countryside, in a private residence in Spain. It depicts a tranquil landscape with a path leading to the barely visible house; the colour palette suggests an oniric inspiration.
