Murrina: an introduction from fusing the colour to cutting
The visit will begin with an explanation of what murrina is and its place in the history of glass art. In addition to seeing the complete collections of Mario dei Rossi and Antonio dei Rossi, the only representatives of contemporary figurative murrina, there will be a chance to watch a video on the working of murrina in all its phases: from the fusion of colours to the composition – which take place in the laboratory – to the working in the furnace, to the cutting and polishing in the moleria. A visit to the laboratory where there will be a murrina in composition will conclude the trip.

Glass fuserMiniature marvels in glass murrineMonths of hard work, resting in the palm of your hand. Small marvels of painstaking patience, created by joining together millimetre-thick pieces of glass to form a pattern identical to the original drawing on paper. Only very few glassmakers still master this art. Venice may be full of murrine works, but only a few are miniature portraits. Most of these carry the signature of Antonio Dei Rossi, who was born in the trade and has successfully mastered his father’s teachings. The precision of Venetian murrine has risen to incredible heights thanks to him. He favours a distinctive choice of subjects, mostly flora and fauna.
