Yves Sampo

Yves Sampo is a master medal engraver in charge of the engraving workshop at Monnaie de Paris, the oldest institution in France, which has the regalian function of minting coins. The workshop's activity has certainly evolved with the development of new technologies, but its identity remains closely linked to the ancient tradition of direct engraving. Yves joined the Monnaie de Paris 25 years ago through a competitive examination and was able to learn from the great master engravers of the time. Today, maintaining this technical and cultural legacy is one of the main concerns of the master engraver. Yves shares his knowledge and skills of direct engraving with his student Claire Narboni, herself an engraver at the Monnaie de Paris since 2016.
