Serbian-born, Milan-based designer Uroš Mihić specialises in the Japanese craft of origami. A trained architect, he translates his passion for shapes and composition into form that range from small animals to large origami forms. His pieces integrate a variety of interiors and purposes, and can also serve as backdrops or the central characters of exhibits, such as those related to Milan’s Salone del Mobile. Uroš's works draw on centuries of techniques to produce contemporary creations based on his career as a designer. They are often on display in luxury boutiques, such as his Deep Sea windows for Pomellato, or delicate leaves and flowers on the vine for Coccinelle. An installation of his origami sculpture was also on display at the Armani flagship store for the 2014 Parcours St Germain in Paris.
TechniqueUroš Mihić refines the ancient craft of origami paper folding, transforming paper sheets into three-dimensional forms through precise folds that give rise to unusual origami objects, some accordion-like and large, as in his model of Milan’s cathedral. Paper loses its quietness and stillness and becomes an emotional object. Every fold has a purpose, an elaborated calculation that makes up the universe of the animal or architectural composition that Uroš is creating.
