Now based in Paris, the Algerian-born multimedia artist Rachid Koraichi won the Jameel Prize in 2011 and has exhibited at the Marrakech Biennale, the Venice Biennale and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts and the Superior National School of the Arts in Algeria between 1967 and 1977. He completed his studies in Paris. Adept at pretty much everything he turns his hand to, he works alone or collectively to produce prints, ceramics, embroidered silk hangings, textiles, works on canvas and paper, sculptures and installations. He uses signs and symbols from both ancient civilizations and his own imaginary ideograms – creating his own visual language. His use of a limited palette helps to emphasise the graphic power of his inscriptions.
