Nic Webb

Wood sculptor

Nic Webb studied painting at Brighton University, graduating in 1994. He has since worked as an artist and maker with a focus on wood and clay. Using a combination of traditional skills and experimental processes, his work explores the values and narratives of contemporary craft. He uses forms that nature has created and sculpts them into something that is authentic to the natural growth and beauty of the wood, sometimes scorching the wooden vessels are an exercise in spontaneous design. He aims to create work that communicates the relevance and beauty of handmade objects and the importance of our relationship with the materials of the natural world. His work is shown internationally, he tutors and gives talks on elemental making and lives and works in East Sussex, UK.
