Lady enjoying the moon-viewing party in the court

The Japanese doll, formed with tōso over a wooden core and covered with paper, portrays a servant at the Imperial Palace as she gazes at the moon. Komao Hayashi uses the human form to express intangible things; through this doll, the artisan expresses moonlight with the image of a woman looking up at the moon. "Dolls are not toys, but a representation of God,” says Hayashi.
