Art of Connection is a curated gallery sourcing and editing the finest objets d’art & crafts from Southern Africa. They are dedicated to sharing the narratives behind each objet d’art and its maker and are proud to collaborate with the master craft artists from the Mapula Embroidery Project.
The Mapula Embroidery Project is one of the most important community art projects in South Africa. It assists over 150 women in Winterveld with developing artistic skills, creating an income and improving their lives, the struggles and triumphs of which have been reflected in many of their embroideries over the years. Founded in 1991, in the past 30 years, the embroiderers have developed an intricate system involving design, production and development of artistic and business skills. Today, pieces by the Mapula women hang in museums and private collections worldwide.
