Engraved Coppa Barovier "A Different Point of View"

With this artwork, Matteo wanted to reproduce the Coppa Barovier, a masterpiece of Renaissance glass art. While normally decorated with coloured paint and gold, Matteo provides his personal interpretation by using the hand-wheel engraving technique inherited from his father. He thus created what is probably the first and only wheel-engraved Coppa Barovier in the world.

Coppa Barovier was originally created in 1460 by Maestro Angelo Barovier as a wedding gift and is still reproduced today in the same way as 500 years ago: a blue-coloured glass coloured with paint and gold. There are paintings of the couple, a cavalcade and the fountain of youth. The original vessel (the cup that James Bond 007 tries to save in the movie Moonraker) is located in the Murano Glass Museum.
