Dimitar Stankov is a Bulgarian contemporary jeweller and artist. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Metal Design at the National Art Academy in Sofia, followed by Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jewellery Design and Silversmithing from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Since then, Dimitar has lived and worked in Brussels, where his studio is based. In his work, Dimitar aims to translate sound into visual objects. Inspired by the music of the traditional Bulgarian kaba bagpipe, Dimitar started his research on cymatics, visible sound and vibration. With this research, Dimitar seeks a way to depict the sound images emerging in the human mind after its interaction with a certain sound or melody. Considering sound and silence, melody and harmony, form and structure, colour, rhythm and texture, Dimitar creates sketches that are later transformed into art objects or jewellery.
