Blue Green Mist Monolith

Slab-built porcelain sculpture in Kondo’s iconic Monolith shape with silver mist surface finish. This piece is an early example of Kondo’s Monolith series, inspired by his visit to Orkney in Scotland, where he first encountered the Ring of Brodgar Neolithic stone circle. The blue/green colour recalls the weathered surfaces of the stones, and the moss and lichen that grow on them, while the silver mist evokes the haar mist coming in from the sea.

Kondo uses his patented technique gintekisai (‘silver mist’) to apply a surface finish that uses precious metals to create work that appears to be covered in droplets of water.
