Belle-île / Houat / Hoedic

The three nesting tables with soft curves are hand-carved from birch plywood and finished with a matte varnish. The tabletops were made using five layers of transparent resin mixed with blue pigments, resembling the transparency and colour of the ocean. Inspired by Matryoshka dolls, the tables were conceived to be placed inside one another.

“I imagine each one as a blend of function and sculpture. Each piece is completely unique, like a painting”, says Julien. His special process of superimposing five layers of resin to create a tabletop means that no two tables will ever be the same. “Each layer dries separately and is influenced by temperature and other external conditions. This means there is an element of chance in the process, which works alongside the mastery of the craftsmanship.”
