Founded in 1775 as the Royal Danish Porcelain Manufactory, under the patronage of Danish Queen Juliane Marie, Royal Copenhagen is renowned for creating exclusive handcrafted and hand painted porcelain associated with beautiful design and sublime craftsmanship. Since the founding days of the manufacturer, one of the first porcelain producers in Europe, all the painters have signed their work on the underside of every single piece, making it a small work of art. The long history of Royal Copenhagen is linked to its Danish royal heritage, its signature blue colour, and the three waves composing the logo painted on each piece of porcelain since 1775 symbolizing the three straits surrounding Denmark; the Sound, the Big Belt and the Little Belt.

Royal Copenhagen also makes Flora Danica, one of the world’s most luxurious porcelain collections and a distinguished specimen of Danish design. Ordered for the first time in 1790 by King Christian VII as a diplomatic gift for Empress of Russia Catherine the Great, the collection is decorated with flowers, with 3000 different motifs to choose from, after the homonymous botanical encyclopedia, and each piece is moulded, cast, gilded and painted by hand before finally being signed by the painter.
