With four centuries of persistent operation, the handmade paper mill Velké Losiny is one of the oldest of its kind in Central Europe. It was founded around the year 1596, since then it has seen many owners, and multiple struggles have hindered the production, including witch trials. Yet the invincible paper mill survived, and in 2001 the factory was included in the national heritage list.
The paper mill's assortment contains graphic, aquarelle or calligraphy paper and many other products. All are made of linen and cotton fibre using traditional methods such as manual sieving, sizing, drying and calendering. This precision is praised not only by craft lovers but also by artists. Furthermore, the paper mill is a crucial contributor to restoration works. In 1987 a museum with a shop was opened on site. Visitors can experience production in the atelier's workshops.
