Two Rivers Paper is an artisanal paper mill established in 1976 and run by its current owner Jim Patterson since 1988. With 60 years of experience in papermaking, Jim worked his way up through different paper mills, until he bought a house with a watermill attached, renovated it and made it the home of Two Rivers Paper. Since then, Two Rivers Paper has become the primary provider of handmade paper to watercolour artists. Today Jim wants to keep the craftsmanship of papermaking alive in the United Kingdom.
All paper is made from plant fibre that is mixed with water until each fibre is loose, and handmade paper is created by gathering the mixture in a wooden frame resulting in a single sheet of paper. Artisanal paper is then pressed and dried. To sustain the craft, Two Rivers Paper has invested in training young artisans to carry on the tradition. Today they are a team of five who work together to create great artisanal paper.
