Terrapintada is a ceramic atelier that was established in 1996 in Bitti – a small village in the east of Sardinia – by two siblings, Robert and Giulia Carzedda, and Simonetta Marongiu, Robert’s wife. All three took a degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti and, later, launched together the business by using European Community’s funds. Their favourite shaping method is the potter’s wheel, but the studio works in various ceramic techniques, among them hand-building, casting, painting and glazing. Terrapintada is strictly connected to the Sardinian traditions – where the fundamental elements of artisanal production are preserved – but with a strong contemporary feel.
In their workshop, located in a former mill in the town centre, they craft many different objects: among these are everyday objects such as tableware and mirrors, but they also take on commissions for sculptures on commission, personalised to the customers' requirements. They sell their products directly from the workshop and, during the summer season, in a showroom located in the historic centre of Orosei, a well known tourist destination in Sardinia.
