Speaking through his hands

  • • Mauro uses only natural materials for his sculptural creations
  • • His first passion was wood, but he loves working with metal and marble, too
  • • He enjoys developing his own techniques as he works

Now a renowned creator of art furniture and sculptures, Mauro Mori spent his early twenties travelling to faraway lands, in a quest to discover the world and himself. When he eventually landed in the Seychelles, he found the answers to all his questions. “A friend was building his house there, and since I always enjoyed working with my hands, I crafted the windows for him in what evolved into my signature style." This life-changing experience brought him to Milan, where he started to create sensuous sculptural wooden pieces with an exotic zest. His work soon attracted the attention of furniture guru and talent finder Giulio Cappellini, with whom Mauro collaborated for ten years. Today, Mauro continues to develop his personal vision in one-off-pieces and international commission projects.

Good Nose

This console was obtained by assembling two hand-carved blocks of Albizia wood, from the Seychelles. Created with the traditional sculpture techniques of subtraction, the two organic shapes blend together to form a sinuous and solid structure.

Mama

Mama’s organic shape was obtained from wooden blocks of Albizia wood. This sculpted table was produced exclusively for Les Ateliers Courbet in New York. Seen from above, the sculpture evokes a soft maternal figure. The piece demonstrates the excellent craftsmanship skills present in all of Mauro’s work.

Noora

Hand-sculpted from a single block of Albizia wood, this long chair is representative of Mauro Mori’s continuous investigation into the sensuous and organic forms that make up his art furnishings.

Quinque

The Quinque console is composed of a set of brass 'stones', formed and shaped by beating sheet brass panels. Through research and innovation, Mauro was able to create a massive but lightweight metal object. He has since adapted this technique for several other works.

Tres Black

The Tres Black side table was made from wrought brass and is characterised by its massive organic form. Tres Black is a limited edition of only nine, and was produced exclusively for Les Ateliers Courbet in New York. Its innovative shape and texture demonstrate the excellent craftsmanship skills present in all of Mauro’s work.
