Creative freedom in woodturning

  • • Things that radiate calm inspire Stefan
  • • It takes about 300 steps to produce a writing instrument
  • • Wood is his choice material

Stefan Fink is a Hamburg native who grew up in his father's carpenter workshop. He began an apprenticeship with master woodturner Werner Nehring as a teenager, where he felt very supported to develop his creativity. Stefan then worked with several cabinetmakers, and in 1982 enrolled at the University of Hamburg (HfbK) to study industrial design. In 1987 he founded his own woodturning and cabinetmaking workshop. For Stefan it has always been important to pick up on the spirit of the time while using traditional skills. In the 1980s for example, he created a wooden pocket condom case that looked rather inconspicuous. Today he welcomes his customers in the beautiful atmosphere of his workshop, which looks out over the Elbe in Hamburg.

Fountain pen Albatross

Hand-turned and distinctive due to its conical, but gently and generously curved shape, the Albatross fountain pen is made from African granadilla wood in subtle earth shades and ebony black, with splint. It has an 18-carat gold nib and a stainless steel handle.

Albatross Twins

These two Albatross fountain pens are hand-turned from the same noble piece of granadilla wood. The typical deep dark glowing colour contrasts with light sand tones. Their iconic form is inspired by the wide wings of the largest bird over the seas.

Fountain pen Starling

The minimalist design of the hand-turned fountain pen Starling is simply timeless. The colour play of dark stone and earth tones is all the more lively and typical of the African grenadilla wood. It has an 18-carat gold nib and a stainless steel handle.

Light birds

Here is a family of writing instruments: the Stork sketching pencil, the Starling rollerballs and the Albatross fountain pen. They have in common their gently curved shapes, the warm golden tone of the precious yew wood from which they are turned, and their functionality.

Dark birds

These are precious collectible pens: rollerball Starling, sketching pen Stork and fountain pens Albatross. They have been hand-turned from 2,500-year-old bog oak, a rare wood from the Bronze and Iron Age – mysteriously dark and deep, ancient and yet timeless.
