Scocca Papillon was born in 2012 in Favara, a small town close to Agrigento, in Sicily. The young entrepreneur Carmelo Nicotra is the founder of the brand, but he couldn’t do anything without his mother, Carmela, a seamstress who materially made his ideas come alive. Nine years ago, Carmelo understood that vintage was coming back into style, and asked his mother to produce some bow ties for a little vintage exhibition in Favara. They sold everything, and people asked for more. One year later, he founded the brand Scocca Papillon, the word “scocca” derives from Sicilian dialect and means “bow".
Since then he has been producing bow ties in all colours and in all materials from cotton to velvet. The packaging is very important to him: the wrapping cardboard is made from recycled paper and comes from England. Today, most of his customers come from abroad and one of the funniest moments of his professional adventure was when he went to the post office to send some bow ties to Rio De Janeiro: this was a first for the local post office.
