Schwertner is the only traditional Austrian Mint in Styria and was founded in 1923 by Josef Schwertner, Bruno Reichel and Heinrich Wundwark as an engraving company. They soon started producing badges as well as honorary markings, steel engravings and embossed signs and, by 1950, they added their own plastic mould construction, making them one of the first Styrian companies to manufacture plastic parts.

Today, Christian Waldherr and Werner Reichel are the third and fourth generation to run the manufacturer with currently 30 employees that combines modern production methods with traditional craftsmanship. For example, for the creation of a portrait on a coin, the artisan first makes a model of the portrait by hand before making and perfecting the mould with a mix of machines and traditional tools and finally minting the coins. Medals, badges and other objects from their production catalogues are often hand-painted after minting. In their shop, exemplary pieces are showcased and the staff of this small but fine specialist shop for sports and honorary awards offer an individualised consultation.
