In tune with nature

  • • Sabine loves the sea
  • • Her signature technique is sepia casting
  • • A brooch for her great aunt was her first piece

Sabine Lang’s jewellery is not only inspired by nature but it also shares the characteristics of nature, in its organic process meeting precision. Having had a knack for handicrafts throughout her school years, Sabine discovered goldsmithing through a course she took as a teenager. She has never stopped since. What followed was training with a journeyman’s certificate at the Hanau Academy of Design, studying at the Design Faculty in Düsseldorf and a working stay in Bristol, England. In 2014, Sabine opened her own workshop. “I found a very nice shop in Hamburg's Neustadt. Over a hundred years ago, the builder of the house was a jeweller and goldsmith. My landlady showed me old photos, brochures and the old goldsmith's newspapers. And she had also kept the tools of her great-great-grandfather.”

Löffel

Clarity and lively structures are juxtaposed in these spoon designs made from silver. The spoon bowls are cast with sepia, giving them an organic and unique shape that cannot be foreseen. The handles are formed from drawn oval wire, which gives them a clearly defined and regular shape.

Freestyle cast rings

This ring series is cast with silver in sepia casting. The stones, green synthetic emerald and purple amethyst, are cast directly into the ring and not set afterwards. The design of the silver setting is partly created during the casting process and cannot be planned. This holds surprises that make up the charm of these works.

Brücken

Hamburg is known as the city of bridges, the Venice of the North. Sabine Lang chose a few typical bridges of Hamburg that are unmistakable in their shape to craft these finger-rings. This group of five rings is made of sterling silver. From left to right: Köhlbrandbrücke, Kattwykbrücke, Lombardsbrücke, Elbbrücken, Reiherstiegbrücke.

Fruchtkaspel Ringe

A botanical garden left to its own devices on La Gomera was the inspiration for these gems. Overgrown, abandoned and untidy, the plants were allowed to grow as they wished. Instead of the fruits, Sabine set precious stones such as topaz or smoky quartz in the capsules made from silver and formed them into rings.

Sepia ring

For this ring made from 18-carat gold, structures from the sea are referenced. Cuttlefish shells serve as moulds and make each piece unique with the imprint of its structures. The textures have been created to look as if they were drawn into the sand by the sea at low tide.
