Pachipamwe Africa was founded in 2017 on the idea that almost anything can be repurposed. This philosophy underpins the creation of new and upcycled interior objects that are expertly-crafted from found and locally sourced materials. Operating from a Harare-based factory, Pachipamwe Africa focuses on small-scale, high-quality production with an appreciation for choice materials, time-intensive details and finishes. The team of artisans explore a range of techniques, from joinery to woodturning to bamboo weaving and upholstery, in a stable and positive work environment.
Product designs are inspired by minimalism and kumusha – the roots and ancestral home. ‘Pachipamwe’ means “coming together again” and is a Manyika term used to greet someone after a brief time apart. For the workshop the name symbolises a customer reunited with a re-imagined object. It also signifies the coming together of old and new ideas, materials and practices to make a positive impact on the world.
