London Stone Carving is a team of four master carvers who have come together to create stone sculptures. The founding directors, Josh Locksmith, Samuel Lee, Thomas Nicholls, and Tom Brown met during their training in historic stone carving at the City and Guilds of London Art School, and have been working side by side ever since. In 2014, the four stone carvers realised there was a gap in the market for high quality stone sculpture in the United Kingdom and decided to create a collaborative stone carving workshop in London. Here they are close to the artists and clients who might otherwise have gone to Italy to find artisans.
The atelier specialises in traditional stone carving, with a focus on three categories: restoration of art, fabrication, and public sculptures. They work on a wide range of projects and commissions and say, “It is exciting to be working on a medieval church one week, and on a sculpture for the Miami Art Festival the next.”
