Walls of wonder

Laurine Malengreau lives in Aubusson, in the Creuse Department, inscribed by UNESCO in the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. In 1665 it became part of the Manufacture Royale des Tapisseries. Laurine’s art is inspired by this context, as she searches for the subtle balance between harmony of gesture, blend of colours and the selection of precious materials. Silk and wool are the ingredients for the magical wall hangings she creates. No glue, but the Nuno Silk technique which she learned from her Spanish master 12 years ago. "I dress walls. starting from the traditional French wall hanging of ancient bourgeois residences, I reinterpret it according to my technique and my taste," Laurine explains.

Pipe Dream

The background of this Nuno Silk wall covering detail features a striking marble surface that was achieved with the use of various precious textiles combined with metallic yarns. The central figure originated from the organic world, echoing the feathers of birds.

Lilac

Inspired by nature and defined by simple sophistication, this large-scale textile wall hanging was entirely handmade to create a unique decoration for a hotel lobby in Abu Dhabi. Made of precious materials such as merino wool, wool of Solognote sheep and floss silk, the wall piece depicts an abstract landscape of shimmering light, flock of birds and traces of dark forests.

Entirely handcrafted, this stunning Nuno Silk wall piece detail is made with high quality materials including brocade, merino and mohair wool and floss silk. The bright yellow brocade band stands out beautifully from the rich Indigo background, characterized by a powdery texture and chaotic abstract patterns.
