The saddlery Gaston Mercier has its home in the region of Aveyron, in southern France. The most important year in the company’s history was 1987, when the founder, the expert rider Gaston Mercier, made the very first saddle. This was also the year when he became European champion in equestrian endurance. This was the starting point of the saddlery. Over the decades that followed, Gaston built up this saddle making company. Today it is his son Manuel who runs the family firm.
Gaston Mercier is very focused on local production and their suppliers of leather and tannery are all in the same region. The key to a saddle is that it must suit both the horse and the rider. At Gaston Mercier, this is achieved by making unique saddles based on the unique measurements of the rider and horse. Furthermore, the company has built riding testing facilities where the use of the saddle can be tried and studied, until it is a perfect fit.
