FUNK eyewear’s story is nothing short of true craftspeople’s tale. Founder, optician and DJ all-in-one Dieter Funk and his partner Sashee Schuster designed and produced their first collection of ‘haute couture’ sunglasses in 1992. By 2008, they had founded their own eyewear atelier in the small German village of Kinsau with the vision to save and promote the nearly extinct craft of spectacle making. Dieter and Sashee were taught by former spectacle makers, before training others themselves. FUNK eyewear is produced in-house with cotton acetate and involves up to 170 steps, from cutting to polishing, by highly skilled and experienced craftspeople.
Their headquarters, open since 2017, house everything from the administration to the warehouse, the shipping department, the FUNK Optik flagship store, as well as the heart of the company – the spectacle workshop. Thanks to FUNK's commitment to sustainability and transparency, customers can experience craftsmanship made in Germany by touring the production workshop.
