The abstract art of glass lighting

  • • Eduard follows a spontaneous creative process
  • • He seeks to limit external influences
  • • He has worked with glass for over 35 years

The creative processes of glass worker and light specialist, Eduard Deubzer are based on having the freedom to follow his spontaneous artistic impulses. His working environment must reflect and facilitate this. Eduard has found the perfect balance in his Bavarian workshop. Eduard handcrafts glass lighting and sculptures using unconventional and original methods. His impulsive approach is always accompanied by an element of uncertainty and surprise. With over 35 years of experience of glass working, he has the skill to create instinctively, without being concerned with feasibility. Each light is custom-made by grinding and cutting the glass with stone wheels. His pendant lamps and glass sculptures are appreciated worldwide for their ingenuity and sensuality.

Dark

Dark was made of two big and heavy steel cuboids, in between which Swarovski crystals and a sheet of hand grinded float glass were integrated. With this piece, Eduard aims to express the pressure intrinsic to conceiving new creations.

Space

Space was made in collaboration with Rike Scholle and was commissioned by a special client, whose only recommendation was to create an extraordinary light for his 3 meter-long dining table. Two pieces were designed with steel and crown glass. One was mouth blown by Rike while the other was precisely hand-shaped by Eduard with ground glass bars.

Zen

Zen was created with mouth blown and hand grounded crystal glass. Eduard drew inspiration from an old lamp he encountered in an Art Nouveau villa in Vienna. He used a special type of stone, combined with an precise amount of water, to achieve this elegant satin finish that generates a very cosy light.
