Antico Setificio Fiorentino is an exquisite atelier which has been in uninterrupted business since 1786. It was taken over by Florentine manufacturer Stefano Ricci in 2010, and is unique of its kind in the complex world of historic manufacturers. In the evocative premises of Borgo San Frediano, set in the heart of Florence’s artisan district, 12 looms are still operational (six hand looms dating back to the 17th century, and six mechanical looms from the 19th century), along with an 18th century warper made to an original design by Leonardo da Vinci and a Benninger warper from 1872.

The noblest and finest fabrics are created around these complex, moving architectures, such as Ermisino or brocade, and they represent a fully-fledged heritage of knowledge and culture. This is a place that knows how to interpret the need for something unique and creative, to transform ideas and designs into outstanding contemporary fabrics impossible to reproduce elsewhere, and which become the perfect source of inspiration for great restorers and the most inspired designers.
