Ceramic landscapes

  • • Adele opened Studio Eleven in 2009
  • • She investigates the notions of living landscapes
  • • As a colourist, her ceramics only speak of one colour each

Adele Howitt has been working as an independent designer and ceramic artist for over 25 years. In 2009, she opened her own workshop called Studio Eleven. Her portfolio of hand-built outdoor and indoor architectural ceramics and public art investigates the notions of living landscapes and natural patterns, utilising traditional 18th-century British pottery techniques. Adele views clay as a sculptural medium as opposed to a technical medium, creating stunning monochrome floral compositions using intricate twisted and turned slab work constructions. Her detailed relief ceramics represent indigenous wildflowers from post-industrial sites, evoking a conceptual reflection of the real landscapes in the 21st century.
