A visit to Woodcraft Museum at Vienkoči Park is like travelling in time. This museum-workshop is the place to discover the history of woodworking from the Stone Age to today. It is arranged like a workshop from the late 19th/early 20th century with all the machines and equipment still in working order. The museum dates back to 1999, when Rihards Vidzickis, encouraged by his father, started to create a collection of historic woodworking machines and tools, which now form an important part of the exhibition.
Passionate about wood, Rihards studied technologies for making objects from solid wood, making the Vienkoči Park (opened in 2007) and the Woodcraft Museum places of experiments and research. In 2012, he obtained his Doctor’s degree in Engineering Science, and started to build the current Woodcraft Museum that opened to public on 16th May, 2014, shinning a light on woodworking, its historical development, local history, nature and green living.
