The Victoria G. Karelias Collection of Greek traditional costumes was originally established as a private collection by Victoria Karelia, founding member and president of the Lyceum Club of the Greek Woman of Kalamata. Created in 1967, the club is actively committed to the preservation of local customs. Besides being a pioneer in the teaching of Greek folk dance and music, it has published different works on traditional themes. Over the years, Victoria devotedly collected a considerable number of garments and accessories from all over Greece.

The permanent exhibition vividly recounts the history of regional folk costumes from the mid-eighteen to the early twentieth century. Gold embroidered coats, exquisite pieces from the Terzides, a wide range of complete outfits from every area of the country, and a remarkable selection of jewelry compose the great collection. Located in Kalamata, the V.G. Karelias Collection is housed in a neoclassical building, which was entirely renovated under the project and with the funds of the George & Victoria Karelia Foundation.
