Situated in the North West of Greece, Soufli is known for the silk industry that flourished in the region during the late 19th century. The town was an important producer of this refined fibre. Today, The Museum of Silk, housed in the Kourtidis Mansion, is keeping alive the town’s tradition. Run by the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation, the institution presents all the phases and stages of pre-industrial sericulture and silkworm breeding. From the hatching of the silkworm to the weaving of the cocoon, the "unwinding" of the thread to the processing of the silkworm, all the secrets are revealed.

In parallel, the permanent exhibition focuses on the story of how Soufli became a key place for silk production, first in the 19th century and then in the mid-20th Century. Across a collection of silk costumes, old photographs, audiovisual productions, the visit illustrates the ancient everyday life in Soufli.
