Being in the house of the most powerful Christian on the island during the Ottoman rule offers you a unique perspective of history, politics and life of the time. The museum is found in the heart of Nicosia and was the residence of the best known Dragoman, Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios (1779 to 1809). Dragomans served the ottoman rulers as intermediaries between the Sarai and the local population. Among their other tasks, they acted as interpreters and organised tax-collection among the Christian subjects.

The building is a beautiful example of domestic architecture of the 18th century, and visitors can roam through the inner yard, the chambers and the oda, where the powerful Dragoman received his guests. Throughout the chambers of the house, visitors may view an exhibition of objects and furniture dating from the 18th to the early 20th century, decorative items of the time, such as Byzantine icons, glazed pottery, jewelry, objects, coins, documents, photographs and family heirlooms.
