The Cyprus Handicraft Center was founded in the aftermath of the devastating events of 1974, when the Turkish invasion left hundreds of thousands displaced, severing ties to land and past. Established to preserve and develop Cyprus’ traditional crafts by employing displaced artisans, the Center's mission has expanded to encompass contemporary design and methods. The Center houses archives, a gift shop and workshops, encircling a courtyard of native plants. Studios feature ceramics, embroidery, weaving and wood carving among other crafts. Members of the public may visit and take part in classes and experimental workshops.
