The Craft of Caning Museum was created with the intention of keeping the tradition of canning alive in the memory of local craftspeople. Founded in 2016 by the Municipality of Livadia, the museum is housed in an old building that was once a kindergarten. The main idea of the architectural approach during the process of the museum design was to eliminate the existing spatial structure and create a new inner shell to have different flows of motion.
The main objective of the museum is to enable visitors to engage with reed, its materiality, textures and colours. A continuous movement, without any beginning or ending, the space is a layout like a labyrinth which provides a unique experience for visitors to discover the craft of caning through visual material, cane objects and the sounds of people and nature during the caning process.
