The Textilmuseum Sandtnerstiftung in Mindelheim features an astonishing selection of fabrics and dresses. Precious velvet and silk fabrics have always been luxury goods; in castles, palaces and churches, elaborately patterned textiles were therefore among the most expensive furnishing elements. The exhibition Kunst.Stoff shows silk fabrics and velvets with lavish decorations from the 14th to the 19th century. These outstanding textile objects of international prestige illustrate the intricate process of creation.
Magnificent gowns, dresses for everyday and parties, the daring dresses of the roaring 1920s as well as the loud outfits of the 1970s are shown in the exhibition Mode.Kunst.Handwerk. Fashionable accessories, such as a large number of precious fans made of ivory, nacre or lace complete the display. The adjacent rooms present the almost unbelievable achievements in embroidery and lace making. Finally, in the festive salon, precious tapestries provide insights into biblical and mythical worlds.
