The Neue Schwäbische Krippenmuseum is located in the former Jesuit College in Mindelheim and offers a unique experience that allows visitors to repeatedly enter into dialogue with the exhibits. In doing so, the many insights around the cribs and figurines of baby Jesus can be explored in a playful way. A very special effect is created by the immersive aesthetic design of the entire museum, that invites visitors to forget about time and space. The many precious cribs, baby Jesus figures and paintings are framed by elaborate stagings.

Interactive media stations show the creation and worldwide distribution of the nativity scenes. Short movies explain the star of Bethlehem, tell the story of the birth of Jesus or take visitors right in the centre of the large Jesuit crib. Children can look forward to their own play stations, which enable them to discover the nativity scene in a contemporary format. Important topics are the “invention” of the baby Jesus in Swabian nunneries, the topicality of the Christmas message or the “crib fever” in Swabia. Visitors can experience all this in Mindelheim, the cradle of Swabian nativity scene traditions.
