The museum first opened in 1947 and included the collection of the best examples the brand had created since the 19th century. In 1964 the museum moved to the old factory buildings. The Vista Alegre Museum seeks to promote the safeguarding, research and interpretation of the industrial heritage of the Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory, inspiring visitors to learn through study and interpretation of ceramic culture, highlighting it’s importance in Portuguese society in the 19th and 20th centuries through one of the most complete museum collections of its kind, containing more than 30,000 pieces.
The museum aims to show the history of the manufacturer and the aesthetic evolution of porcelain production, through supporting documents and drawings, along with the porcelain pieces themselves. The museum organises guided tours and workshops according to different levels, creating learning opportunities and promoting the interpretation and access to Vista Alegre’s heritage and collections.
