The silk industry was of paramount importance in Valencia between the 15th and 18th centuries. The Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda, whose building currently holds the Museo de la Seda, was founded to govern the criteria for silk manufacture. This is a unique museum, where you can learn about the silk production process, and its historical relevance. They show fabric samples of inestimable value, as well as silk costumes and looms from the 18th century, with weaving demonstrations on a Jacquard loom and extraction of the silk thread.

Additionally, it houses the widest and oldest trade union archive in Europe. The Hall of Fame recreates Heaven and Earth with frescos on the ceiling and an impressive tiled floor, representing the four continents known in the 18th century. The master Vicente Navarro took inspiration for the ornate tiled floor from Bernini’s fountain at Navona Square. Do not forget to visit its terrace, the restaurant, and the shop.
