Since 1989, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (Dekoratīvās mākslas un dizaina muzejs, or MDAD) has housed collections of textile art, ceramics, metal, leather, decorative wood, glass art and design. The permanent collection includes works by Latvia's leading artists in decorative art and design from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
In addition, MDAD displays temporary exhibitions reflecting current processes in decorative applied art, fashion and design. For its exhibitions and educational programmes, it collaborates with artists, designers, and partner institutions in Latvia and abroad. To encourage public interest in decorative applied art, craftsmanship and design, the museum regularly organises a series of lectures and talks, as well as creative workshops for children and adults.
