The city of Livani and glass is almost like a synonym in Latvia. It is known as the town with a renowned glass manufacturer. Unfortunately, the factory closed its doors in 2008. However, the traditions are still alive at Livani Glass Museum. The museum dates back to 1979, when the director of Livani Glass factory, Janis Zosins decided to open a museum for their heritage pieces on the manufacturer’s premises. Contemporary exhibitions are now held at Latgale Art and Craft Centre which was opened in 2013.

The museum presents an impressive and detailed history of the manufacturer, and displays a vast collection of heritage glass creations, as well as new works, executed at the workshop next to the museum by the artisan Aleksandrs Logvins, where visitors can see the only remaining public glassblowing workshop in Latvia. The museum is home to almost 6000 exhibits: jars and bottles, glassware, glass artworks and special commissions. This makes Livani Glass Museum the biggest glass collection in the Baltic states.
