Throughout the year, Maison de Métiers d’Art organises exhibitions to showcase the creations of artisans from the region of Liège. From woodworkers, leatherworkers and glass makers to stone carvers, metal workers, jewellery makers and textile designers, the theme for each exhibition changes to accommodate the myriad of local craftspeople. With eye-catching window displays and an inviting space, visitors have the chance to see up close the details of the masterpieces exhibited by the selected artisans and get an insight into their creative processes through a series of live demonstrations.
Maison de Métiers d’Art is run by Office Provincial des Métiers d’Art de Liège (OPMA), set up in 1941, the organisation’s aim being to develop initiatives which support artisans. The local cultural heritage is steeped in craftsmanship traditions which OPMA seeks to protect and bring to the attention of the public through its engaging programme of revelatory exhibitions.
